Veritas Technology Corp, which provides data storage and server management software, is now under new ownership. Symantec has agreed to sell Veritas to an investment group led by private equity firm The Carlyle Group for $8 billion in cash.

The Carlyle Group is joined in the acquisition by GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, as well as other investors. The deal is the first for Carlyle since the firm re-opened its Silicon Valley office.
