The theft of Apple Inc.’s iPhones and iPads has grown so widespread that some police departments have begun referring to the crime as “Apple Picking.” Here’s how you can keep from adding your device to the harvest:

1. Hide It. A thief can’t steal something that’s out of sight. Whenever possible, keep your iPhone in your pocket, inside a pocketbook, or attached to your belt. Never leave your phone or tablet in plain view on a car seat. Hide it inside the trunk, inside a glove or console box, or under a seat. Never leave your device unattended in a public place.
