1. Humanizing the Internet of Things. Have you hugged your smart refrigerator today? Not too likely, say the authors of the Internet of Caring Things, the latest briefing from Trendwatching. This market research firm says that passion, rather than mere convenience, will drive the Internet of Things. They report that consumers already are gravitating to those products and services that help them “feel good physically and mentally, feel safe and feel connected to their loved ones.” Early adopters tend to sport high-profile names, such as Nest smart thermostat and Nike FuelBand and are “blazing an early caring trial.” But some lesser-known names are also gaining traction with consumers, such as Cuptime, the Chinese smart cup that helps users track their hydration levels.
