How often do you quickly and easily find what you need on the website of a legal technology vendor? If you say “not often,” you are not alone. So what makes a legal technology vendor website most useful? What stands in the way of perfection? LTN asked vendors, users, and a website expert to identify common mistakes and suggest best practices.

The number one complaint: Vendors don’t put clear, concise information about their company and products front and center. “I quickly want to know what the product is, what problem it solves, and why it’s better than its competitors,” says Matthew Kesner, CIO at Fenwick & West. “Surprisingly few sites offer this.” Kesner says he sometimes spends more than five minutes trying to find such information — if he doesn’t give up first. “I often feel that the vendors are too wrapped up in themselves,” he says. “They are congratulating themselves, patting themselves on the back, talking about how they are the best.”
