Jeanette Fitzgerald, Epsilon Data Management’s general counsel, sat in the hot seat on June 2, fielding rapid-fire questions from a congressional panel that wanted answers about a severe security breach. This week, she helped her company take a major step toward repairing the breach’s damage to her company and its reputation.

Epsilon, the world’s largest e-mail marketing service, announced a first-of-its-kind collaboration with Verizon Communications, on a set of new security technologies. The innovations will allow Epsilon to quickly track malicious IP addresses, and identify and mitigate “electronic crimes in motion” in a way that has not been possible until now, the company said.
