I’d been stalling on adding a high-speed access to my tiny apartment on the first island paradise (Manhattan), trying to convince myself that my trusty dedicated phone line was all I need because I really don’t spend that much time at home. But when I found myself pounding my poor unsuspecting monitor in frustration at lousy download speeds, I came to my senses.

First, I tried DSL, mostly because I am lazy and Verizon offered to just mail me the package with all the necessary accoutrements. And give me a month free to mess around with it and a good trial rate (No, I didn’t tell them I was a tech editor, just signed up as a civilian.)
