Meta has transferred three artificial intelligence-related patents to Midjourney, a research lab that uses generative AI to create images, a move the tech giant believes will bolster the startup’s intellectual property portfolio and spur more innovation in the AI space.
The move also helps Midjourney defend itself from so-called nonparty entities, or NPEs, that buy up patents to use as fodder for infringement lawsuits.
