To keep up with the modern corporate client, law firms will need to offer some flexibility to consider additional software purchases and possibly reconfigure policies, according to ILTACON 2021′s “Information Lifecycle Strategies for Modern Collaboration” panel on Wednesday. And if law firms remain rigid regarding collaboration tools, no matter their size, they may lose some clients.

“I think that at the core of it, the business drivers are pretty similar to what a smaller or midsize firm is dealing with,” said Ropes & Gray information governance risk manager Abraham Miller-Barbarow. “We have to deal with the same outside counsel guidelines, and it may be a bit cutthroat at the top of the table because the big firms are competing for the lion’s share of the business. If one client is asked to use one cloud storage service and the firm says no, that may drive [clients] into another firm.”
