It may seem contrary in the current market to be thinking of turning customers away but Linklaters has recently confirmed that it is indeed gearing up for a little pruning of its client base.In many ways this is a continuation of the process begun under the leadership of Tony Angel. The veteran managing partner was explicit in his drive to focus the firm on its larger clients, in particular the international institutions that echoed its own cross-border expansion. And under Angel's much-touted successor, Simon Davies, the playbook drawn up in recent years is apparently still in use - only more so. As such the firm's executive committee decided that the firm, in the words of one partner, "needed to tidy up its client base a bit".
