The use of potentially excellent green technologies in the wrong locations is a serious problem - damaging the reputation of the equipment and giving a good process a bad name.Misuse of green technology gives credibility to those who object to renewables for the wrong reasons, and may deter people who would otherwise be keen to do their bit.A recent Carbon Trust study stated that while wind turbines in rural areas could provide cheaper electricity than the National Grid, roof-mounted turbines in many urban locations may not pay back their embedded carbon emissions. Many of the firms we advise are only too aware of this. Alternatives to turbines, such as ground source heat pumps and solar water heating, can offer greater energy efficiency in cities.
