I am an LPC student and have a training contract with a large City firm commencing in March ’09. In between the end of the LPC and the start of my training contract, as well as traveling and generally having a good time, I’d like to get some commercial experience in investment banking. Call me sad but I want to understand my potential future clients better by having been in their shoes.

Is three months working in an investment bank a worthwhile experience for a corporate trainee? And is it better to go into an actual investment banking department or join their in-house legal team? Which of the departments is likely to give me the more relevant experience?
