As the EU announces a new emissions curb, the aviation industry questions the policy’s effectiveness

At the end of 2006 the European Commission (EC) finally announced its legislative proposals on the integration of aviation into the European Union (EU) Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). Airlines will have to meet emissions targets starting from 1 January, 2011, for all flights within Europe and starting 1 January, 2012 for round-trips into the EU from airports outside the EU.
