These few days at Gleneagles have made me very optimistic about the future of legal IT. The technology may be ephemeral, but what continues and what has been brought out in this conference is the desire on the part of all of us to do things better – to work together to change the delivery of service and therefore legal outcomes.

Above our short-term goals we also have to remember the broader impact of our objectives. We all live in societies ruled by law. The present turbulence in Afghanistan, the Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe will eventually decrease and, we hope, a rule of law will emerge. Not necessarily a clone of our law, but some set of rules and precedents to enable society to function.
