France is facing a second showdown with the European Commission (EC) over its restrictive practice rights, this time concerning its national ban on foreign lawyers acting as notaries.

The EC is set to take action against France, along with five other European Union (EU) states, over rules barring foreigners from becoming notaries – who traditionally advise on conveyancing issues and company formation in Europe.
