“The legal industry is very important; there may be only 100,000 lawyers in this country, but there are more than two million in the US, ” explains Nigel McEwen, managing partner of Tarlo Lyons, as the reason why his firm has invested about £200,000 in a new product called Scaffold IT.
Scaffold IT is an automatic document generation system that creates legal contracts by accessing ‘precedents’ or templates over the internet. “We see it as not only having applications in the legal industry, there are whole other sectors where complex documents involving multiple choices are produced, such as shipping, aviation and insurance,” McEwen says.
