Patton Boggs has long helped the Republic of Cameroon with Washington policy work, so it was natural that when Cameroon needed assistance with a iron ore project involving cross-border transportation, it turned to Patton.

Washington partner Robert Kapla said he was approached in February 2012 to help broker the $10 billion project that included two iron ore mine sites, an enrichment facility, 360 miles of rail and a deep-water terminal. Part of the rail system crosses into the Republic of Congo. "Cameroon is ripe with tons of resources but they need to build the infrastructure," said partner Douglas Boggs, whose practice includes mergers and acquisitions and international project finance.
