  • GE drops e-bidding for US adviser overhaul

    General Electric (GE) has completed an overhaul of its US panel of advisers, ditching 44 firms and adding 12 new names to the roster. The international conglomerate, which has one of the largest in-house legal departments in the world, has axed 15 litigation firms and 13 US regional firms - including Armstrong Teasdale and Fox Rothschild - from its from its roster, which handles all of GE's legal work in the US.

  • Insurance company to set up fees database

    The claims handler for insurance market Lloyd's of London, Xchanging Claims Services (XCS), has sent out letters to advisers in the City asking for details of terms and fees. XCS, which agrees claims on behalf of Lloyd's syndicates, sent letters to a number of London firms in recent weeks.

    Post-it note manufacturer 3M's general counsel Richard Ziegler has announced that he is to retire at the end of the year. Former Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton partner Ziegler has been at the company since 2003 and will step down from the role at the end of March. He will continue in a counsel role until his successor is found.

    The Government has rebuffed an attempt to force all in-house lawyers to pay for a practising certificate (PC). In a debate in the House of Lords earlier this month, Conservative shadow Lord Chancellor Lord Kingsland proposed an amendment to the Legal Services Bill, which was backed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), in a bid to "put the obligation of in-house solicitors beyond doubt".

Hunsakar, former HP chairwoman Patricia Dunn and private investigators Ron DeLia and Matthew DePante were indicted last year after an internal investigation into boardroom leaks.
