Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan will open its first office in mainland China with the hire of a senior investigations partner from Kirkland & Ellis.

The Los Angeles-based litigation firm has recruited Samuel Williamson, who currently serves as head of Kirkland’s government enforcement and investigations practice in Asia, to lead a new office in Shanghai. In a statement, Quinn Emanuel said it has applied to the Ministry of Justice to operate in the Chinese city and that it expected to open the office this coming fall.
