Australia’s HWL Ebsworth has been on a growth tear lately. In its quest to compete with the country’s top-tier law firms, last year alone the firm added 44 lawyers and nearly 30 partners, bringing HWL Ebsworth’s head count to 184 partners and 520 lawyers overall. Total lawyer count is up 62 percent from three years ago, according to managing partner Juan Martinez, while revenues have also skyrocketed over the same period, from $102.1 million to a projected $219 million for the current fiscal year.

“That hasn’t come about by virtue of market growth,” says Martinez, referring to the recent revenue surge. “It’s come about because we’ve taken it.”
