Latham & Watkins is advising Seattle-based coffee giant Starbucks Corp. on a $914 million buyout of its Japanese operations.

The company will acquire the 39.5 percent of Starbucks Japan held by joint venture partner Sazaby League Ltd., which operates a portfolio of retail and food brands in the country, for $505 million. Completion of that transaction will bring Starbuck’s holdings in the Japanese business to 79 percent. The company will then purchase the remaining 21 percent held by public shareholders for $408.5 million. Both transactions are expected to close in the first half of next year.
