“Sany has won a lawsuit against President Obama at a U.S. circuit court!” This was posted on China’s Twitter-like site Weibo by Xiang Wenbo, president of China’s Sany Heavy Industry Co. Ltd., on the morning of July 16. About 10 hours previously, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled that President Barack Obama’s ban on the company’s planned wind farm project near a U.S. Navy base had deprived Sany of its right to due process of law.

Sany’s win has been gleefully, hailed by China’s media as a “historical victory” for Chinese companies. In a typical commentary, state-run Global Times wrote: “This victory is precious, for it has torn open the iron curtain of national security which the U.S. government has been using to hold Chinese companies down.”
