In November 2012, I wrote an article for Legal Week entitled “Tales from a warzone – Mayer Brown on the realities of business in Afghanistan”. The article graphically described the experience of the Mayer Brown team working as part of a group assembled by the US Department of Defense to advise the Government of Afghanistan in connection with the development of the mining industry in that country.
The mission continued for several years. Recent developments in that country have resonated deeply with all of us who were involved in the project.
