Lawyers are split over whether they would encourage their children to pursue a career in Big Law, with many pointing towards challenges such as long-hours, client demands and lack of diversity as good reasons to dissuade them from entering the industry.

In a survey conducted by International, nearly a quarter of respondents say that they would actively discourage their children to enter the legal profession. Several partners cite concerns over work-life balance and the profession’s focus on billed time, adding that many of the issues had worsened since they qualified into the industry.
