Tough times need gentle handling
Soon after becoming editor, I said I wanted to bring a more measured style to Legal Week. One trigger for that were the words of the head of one large City firm, who told me half his partners regard him talking to the press as “supping with the devil”. Well, based on a lunch I had with the same firm recently, we have made up some ground, with the managing partner telling me he now felt we were a publication his firm could “partner with”. I’ve also had a fair amount of similar feedback from management at other firms, which makes me feel that, while there’s room for improvement, there has at least been some real progress.
