Diversity of all kinds matters to students, especially when thinking about where to work. The challenge for the legal profession is to understand this need for new blood and to respond to it. This is especially true given the perception (or even the reality) that conservative hiring habits remain commonplace in the industry.

Research suggests students with relatives in the legal profession are more likely than those with no such contact to obtain work experience in the legal field – a practice that disadvantages students from ethnic minority and less affluent socio-economic backgrounds.
