A Wilmington employee who remained on the city’s payroll after being fired in 2013 will be able to put forward allegations of retaliation against the city and two of its officials, though a federal judge on Thursday tossed her discrimination claims.

The employee, Genevieve Hinkle, 61, had claimed she was the victim of racial, gender and age discrimination after she was terminated from her position as the city’s director of risk management and employee benefits for authorizing the issuance of fraudulent checks. The funds, the city had learned, had been embezzled by an accounts payable clerk, who was later sentenced to 30 days in jail.
