Three candidates have qualified to compete for one open seat on the Fulton County Superior Court in the May 22 nonpartisan election.

Judge Tom Campbell plans to retire Dec. 31 when his current term ends, according to his judicial assistant, Eric Owens. Campbell has served the court since former Gov. Sonny Perdue appointed him in 2004. He was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for 15 years before that. He had a solo private practice based in Roswell. He also served as a magistrate judge in Mountain Park and a municipal court judge in Ball Ground. He’s a 1964 graduate of the University of Georgia law school.
