Gov. Nathan Deal has appointed Fulton County Deputy Assistant District Attorney Paige Reese Whitaker to fill the post of Fulton Superior Court Judge Jerry Baxter, who stepped down at the end of last year.

Whitaker, 49, joined the office of District Attorney Paul Howard Jr. in 2010, and currently serves in the appellate division. Previously, Whitaker was on Judicial Nominating Commission “short lists” for vacancies on the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, and she was one of 11 candidates recommended for appointment to the Judicial Qualifications Commission by the State Bar of Georgia, where she serves on the Board of Governors.
