The State Bar of Georgia’s board of governors unanimously approved a list of 11 bar members to recommend to state legislators as candidates for two open seats reserved for attorneys on the newly minted state judicial watchdog agency.

The bar—which was stripped of its three appointments to the Judicial Qualifications Commission by state legislators last year—was given by the enabling law the authority to recommend a list of possible nominees to the Georgia House Speaker and lieutenant governor. The speaker and the lieutenant governor (in his capacity as president of the state senate) are each allotted two appointments, one of whom must be a Georgia bar member. The new law does not require the speaker or lieutenant governor to make their appointments from the bar candidate list.
