Gov. Nathan Deal on Monday appointed Clyde Reese III to the Georgia Court of Appeals Monday, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Herbert Phipps at the end of November.

Reese, 57, a graduate of Mercer University law school, is commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Health. Reese will start his new job Dec. 1, the governor announced.
