Fulton County has agreed to pay more than $2.1 million to settle claims of 186 former county employees whose pension benefits were wrongly calculated several years ago. Of the $2,106,900 settlement, $632,070—30 percent—is allocated as attorney fees for the plaintiff’s lawyers. A special master will be paid a total of nearly $1.3 million, with 40 percent coming from the settlement payment and 60 percent from the county.

Atlanta solo Alysa Freeman, who represents the plaintiffs along with Chandler & Moore partner Douglas Chandler, noted that the recalculated pensions mean that, going forward, the retirees or their estates collectively will receive hundreds of thousands of dollars.
