Sutherland Asbill & Brennan’s revenue and profit dipped in 2014 because some major litigation wound up—most notably for longtime client Transocean over liability in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill—despite a busy year for the tax, insurance, energy, corporate, real estate and intellectual property practices, said its managing partner, Mark Wasserman.

A lot of the Transocean work concluded at the beginning of 2014, Wasserman said. “We saw it coming the entire year and prepared for that,” he said. “We had a very good year across practice areas, but not enough to make up for the drop in litigation.”
