On Jan. 11, 2013, the Department of Labor announced its intention to interview more than 10,000 workers to determine how much they understand about their job classifications as independent contractors and their respective rights and benefits.

On the heels of this, Iowa joined a growing number of states to pool resources and coordinate enforcement efforts with the federal government to crackdown on misclassifying workers as contractors.
