WITH 162 LAWYERS as of August 2006, Morris, Manning & Martin is the second smallest firm in the Daily Report Dozen. But its profit per equity partner-$805,372, an almost 21 percent increase from 2005-places fifth, right after heavy hitters whose head counts dwarf the 30-year-old firm.

And in the 2006 survey, what looks like a wild change in the numbers may instead point to an intriguing aspect of the firm’s structure-as well as a sweet windfall for partners.
