A memorial service for longtime Atlanta lawyer Melburne D. “Mac” McLendon, who died last week at 86, is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.

McLendon was born in Atlanta in 1921 into a family of seven children and graduated from Fulton High School in 1938. A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the Army in 1941 and flew more than 30 missions before being shot down over Germany, where he spent three-and-a-half months as a prisoner of war until being liberated in April 1945. He received a Purple Heart, an Air Medal and a POW Medal for his service.
