The money chase in the seven-way race for an open seat on the state Court of Appeals is creaking to a start, with one late entrant showing a willingness to self-finance at least some of his campaign.

Douglasville lawyer Perry J. McGuire, who entered the race about a month ago, has lent his campaign $200,000, according to mid-year financial disclosure reports filed with the State Ethics Commission. McGuire used this tactic in 2006, loaning $400,000 to his campaign as the Republican nominee for state attorney general.
