Alapaha Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Brooks E. Blitch III, the target of both a Judicial Qualifications Commission misconduct proceeding and a separate FBI investigation, has agreed to leave the bench and never again seek or assume judicial office.

Blitch’s lawyers, led by former Gov. Roy E. Barnes, struck a tentative deal with the JQC on Wednesday after several hours of negotiations held at the offices of The Barnes Law Group. The agreement came just two days after the JQC set May 6 as the start of Blitch’s trial in the Cook County Courthouse in Adel-a proceeding that could have resulted in Blitch being forced off the bench.
