Jasper attorney George W. Weaver began filing motions Wednesday to disqualify Appalachian Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Oliver Harris Doss Jr. in more than 50 criminal cases, citing personal bias and a Judicial Qualifications Commission investigation.

In an affidavit filed with the motions, Weaver said the judge should “recuse himself or be recused” from Weaver’s cases because of questions about impartiality and fairness, as well as statements attributed to the judge about being the target of an investigation by the JQC. To substantiate his claim of personal bias against him, Weaver alleges that the judge gave one of Weaver’s clients an unusually harsh sentence on a DUI conviction to punish the lawyer.
