Intellectual property lawyers Andrea E. Bates and E. Michelle Tyde have launched their own firm, Bates & Tyde, to go after Fortune 500 companies that value diversity-and clients of all sizes looking for big firm expertise at lower rates. The firm focuses on intellectual property transactions and general corporate work.
In an area of law that remains largely white and male, the two are capitalizing on their female status. They started Bates & Tyde in April and gained certification from the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council earlier this month as a female-owned business. They are likely the only IP firm in town to be dubbed a Women’s Business Enterprise, although the certifying agency does not release membership information.
