The Cobb County Bar Association and friends will gather Saturday on the birthday of their former president, longtime prosecutor and Georgia Court of Appeals Judge Debra Halpern Bernes, to raise money for a law school scholarship in her memory.

Bernes, a prosecutor in Cobb County for 20 years, died of cancer in July 2010 at age 54. Just before her death, bar association members approved the scholarship plan under the direction of then-president Nancy Ingram Jordan, who is chairing the event with J. Scott Jacobson.
