The judge overseeing Jefferson County, Ala.’s bankruptcy case said he won’t remove the court-appointed receiver who is running the county’s insolvent sewer system.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Thomas B. Bennett instead will consider whether the bankruptcy code allows him to limit the receiver’s power, he said Monday at the start of a two-day hearing in Birmingham, Alabama. Bennett said he isn’t being asked to oust the receiver, who was appointed by a state court on behalf of bondholders owed $3 billion.
