An Atlanta lawyer won a big defense verdict last month when a New Hampshire jury turned aside plaintiffs’ lawyers requests for up to $49 million for a woman permanently disfigured after being severely burned when her robe caught fire.

Michael J. Goldman, a partner at Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young’s Atlanta office, said his client-the manufacturer of the robe-was the sole remaining defendant after co-defendants reached multimillion-dollar settlements with the plaintiffs, who demanded millions more to drop the remaining case.
