An Atlanta law firm has secured a $3.1 million settlement award for the family of a wheelchair-bound woman who died when she was ejected from a vehicle driving her to a Southwest Georgia health care appointment. She was allegedly not properly seatbelted during the car crash.

On June 1, 2020, Cynthia Louise Feijoo, 61, of Albany, was being transported to a cancer treatment appointment by Resource Management Systems in a 2017 Ford Econoline E350 van driven by Tom Wilkes. While in Colquitt County on Georgia Highway 37, the Econoline was hit at the Thigpen Trail intersection by a 2015 Kia Soul driven by Alejandra Isabella Ramirez. According to the police’s accident report, Ramirez tested positive for marijuana at the time, and Wilkes tested positive for an opioid pain killer, an anticonvulsant pain medication and a cold and allergy medication.
