"By clearly defining 'net settlement' and allowing for payments made after the minor reaches majority to reduce the gross settlement amount, insurers can be more creative in how they structure settlements with minors to ensure a more efficient court approval process without the parent or guardian having to be appointed as a conservator," said attorney Gillian Crowl of Swift Curie in Atlanta.
