A man accused of assaulting and attempting to rape at gunpoint his ex-girlfriend, the daughter of the local police chief, in a 2019 home invasion in Jackson, Georgia, has been acquitted on all charges. And his attorney said the accusation was a setup.

Marquirius Deonte McClendon and Lauren Jackson, daughter of Jackson Police Chief James Morgan, dated exclusively in 2017 and 2018. But the couple broke up in summer 2019, and the relationship was on and off the rest of that year, said McClendon’s attorney, Mike Jacobs. McClendon, 24 when he was arrested, was jealous of Lauren Morgan’s dates with other men, often confronted her about it and even checked her phone to see which men she’d been talking to and texting with, according to Jacobs.
