President Joe Biden on Thursday tapped Nancy Gbana Abudu to serve as judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Atlanta. It serves as the federal appellate court for Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

Abudu is the deputy legal director and interim director for strategic litigation at the Southern Poverty Law Center. Before joining the group in 2019, Abudu was the legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida and a staff attorney at the organization’s Voting Rights Project.
