Suspended Georgia Court of Appeals Judge Chris Coomer has agreed to settle an ethics complaint by paying a $25,000 fine—said to be the largest the state has ever imposed against a judge—but still faces a pending Judicial Qualifications Commission investigation.

Coomer signed a consent order along with Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission GC Robert Lane on Dec. 9. The order detailed transfers made back and forth from Coomer’s campaign account to his law firm and said he improperly used campaign funds to pay for trips to Hawaii and Israel. The settlement included the $25,000 civil penalty and $7,000 Coomer contributed to the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation.
