Georgia’s judiciary will continue operating under a statewide judicial emergency but with far fewer restrictions, according to a new order released Monday by the Supreme Court of Georgia’s chief justice.

However, Chief Justice Harold Melton’s newest emergency order—the eighth he has handed down since March—does continue the suspension of statutory deadlines tied to indictments and jury trials, including statutory speedy trial demands and statutes of limitations in criminal cases. Deadlines imposed on the courts also remain suspended through Dec. 9 when the new order expires. The tolled deadlines don’t apply to nonjury bench trials.
