Northeastern Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Jason Deal said he interviewed with the Judicial Nominating Commission this week for two openings on the Georgia Supreme Court, but he withdrew his name at the end of the day because he did not want to become known as a justice who got the job because of his father.

So, when the commission sent a shortlist of recommendations to Gov. Nathan Deal, his son’s name was not on it.
