The young assistant district attorney was not pleased with the sentence the judge had just handed a convicted rapist: Five years, with only two to serve in prison.

The ADA confronted the judge in his chambers, where he laid bare the reason for the light sentence: displeasure with a question the prosecutor had asked the defendant concerning his father’s offer to buy a car for the victim if she would recant her testimony.
